NOJHL names its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that the forward trio of Brady Harroun (Timmins Rock); Rhys Smetham (Powassan Voodoos) and Oliver Smith (Greater Sudbury Cubs) have been named its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week, for the period ending February 12.

BRADY HARROUN, (F) TIMMINS ROCK – The 20-year-old St. Albert, Alta., product posted back-to-back three-point outings helping Timmins extend their current winning streak to 10 consecutive contests.

Harroun began by tallying twice, including notching the game-winner, and adding an assist in a road win at Hearst Friday, then followed that up with his 12th multi-goal game of the season, with a hat trick, as the Rock won at Cochrane on Saturday.

Having scored in seven games in a row, Harroun leads all NOJHL skaters in goals scored with 38 and sits second overall in points with 72. His eight game-winning markers are also tops in the league.

RHYS SMETHAM, (F) POWASSAN VOODOOS – Smetham scored in each of Powassan’s two triumphs during the time frame, notching three in total, and chipped in with a trio of assists as part of a six-point week.

The 19-year-old, who calls Ashton, Ont., home, connected in victories versus Espanola and Kirkland Lake, featuring a single-game high five points in the decision over the Gold Miners Saturday.

His efforts helped Smetham reach the 20-goal plateau on the campaign, which are the second-most on the Voodoos, behind only teammate Tucker Shields’ 22.

OLIVER SMITH, (F) GREATER SUDBURY CUBS – Providing consecutive two-assist nights last week, Smith’s efforts helped the NOJHL-leading Cubs collect wins over French River and the Soo Eagles.

As part of that, the 19-year-old from nearby Lively, Ont., drew helpers on both game-winning goals Greater Sudbury had in the pair of triumphs.

Competing at well over a point-per-game clip with the Cubs so far this season, Smith has supplied 54 points in his first 44 contests. He has also has 16 multi-point performances in 2022-23, including three in succession.
