North Bay rolls over Sudbury

NORTH BAY – The North Bay Trappers exploded for six unanswered third period goals to defeat the Sudbury Nickel Barons 8-1 Sunday evening in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at Memorial Gardens.

A Brennen Dubchak power play marker seven minutes into the contest gave the home side the lead after one period of play.

Andre Comtois pulled Sudbury level 12:14 into the middle frame with a man advantage effort only to see Stephen Langford put North Bay back on top three minutes later making it 2-1 Trappers after 40 minutes.

Two quick tallies by Samuel Blanchet early in the third was a sign of things to come as North Bay opened up offensively.

Blanchet then proceeded to set-up Tait Seguin for goals in quick order later in the session as the Trappers took full control going up 6-1.

Duane Wainman and another by Langford in the late going wrapped up the North Bay outburst.

Brandon Janke chipped in with three assists for the Trappers.

Greg Dodds made 22 saves to register the victory while Alex Laino faced 34 shots in a losing cause for the Nickel Barons.

NOJHL play resumes Wednesday as Sudbury hosts Blind River at McClelland Arena. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
