Record-setting night for Clouthier as Eskimos blast Voodoos
IROQUOIS FALLS – Brady Clouthier had a record-setting night as part of a six-goal, nine-point effort helping the Abitibi Eskimos blast Powassan Voodoos 13-6 Saturday evening in a high-scoring Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League affair at Jus Jordan Arena.
Clouthier scored the games’ first three markers in quick order finding the back of the net three times in a span of one minute and 36 seconds to send Abitibi on their way.
According to files from NOJHL statistician and historian David Harrison, the accomplishment by the Eskimos forward set a new team record for fastest three goals by a player in club history, surpassing the old mark of 3:59 set back during the 2001-02 campaign by Yannick Marois.
Brennan Roy put the home side up by another at 8:54 before Josh Ibbitson put Powassan on the board 41 seconds later.
Roy added another in the final moments for the Eskimos with his second of the stanza making it 5-1 after 40 minutes.
Abitibi continued to pour it on in the middle session tacking on three more tallies thanks to Blake Cudmore, Ryan Tront and Clouthier’s fourth of the night.
The romp continued in the final frame with Kyle Levis adding on two more extending the lead to 10-1.
The Voodoos picked up their second goal via the power play midway through the period, but Clouthier struck again burying his fifth of the evening while the Eskimos were down a man a mere 20 seconds later.
After Brendan Locke connected on the man advantage at 12:37, Powassan showed they hadn’t given up burying four of their own in rapid succession to add to the tally total.
Jacob Erwin, Aaron Dart, Kyle Moore and Steve Harland all scored for the Voodoos as the goals kept coming.
Capping off his incredible night, Clouthier picked up the final tally of the evening as he completed the six-pack at 17:13 to round out the scoring.
Clouthier also established a new record for fastest four goals by an Abitibi player besting the old mark formerly held by Ian Fummerton set in the 1999-2000 campaign. His five markers tied a record set by Yannick Marois 2001-02 while his six tallies overall in a single game marks that first time that has been done.
Clouthier, Locke and Tront also added three assists apiece in the victory while Jake Holland doled out four helpers for the winners with Harland setting up three for the Voodoos.
Shots on goal favoured Abitibi 42-40 as Ryan Ferguson picked up the victory.
Jack Ondrovic started for Powassan and suffered the loss and Matt Young also saw action in relief.
