ESPANOLA, Ont. – The Timmins Rock saw Lucas Lowe tally twice and assist on another to propel his side to a 6-2 win over the Espanola Paper Kings Saturday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at the Regional Recreation Complex.
Timmins opened the scoring midway through the first period on a marker credited to Jack Kelly to give him points in three straight outings.
The Rock then went up by a pair at 13:56 as Clark Scaddan jammed in a loose puck on Espanola starter Jack Helkie.
In the middle frame, the Paper Kings cut into the deficit halfway through the session thanks to Carter Drigo finishing off a chance from the slot during a man advantage, in beating Timmins’ netminder Dryden Riley.
Restoring their two-goal cushion, the Rock’s Lowe won a draw back to Ethan Albert at the point, who moved in, deked around a defender and ripped a shot past Helkie.
Building on that, Timmins’ captain Tenzin Nyman increased their lead during a power play as he snapped an attempt from up top through bodies that Helkie could only get a piece of before in trickled in.
That also resulted in an Espanola goaltending change, with James Meredith entering in relief for the remainder of the period.
However the visitors bagged one more before the second intermission as Lowe won another faceoff, then took a Braedyn Cyr pass and whipped it past Meredith from the slot.
Heading to the third, Lowe used some creative stickhandling to notch another as he picked the short-side corner on Helkie, who had gone back in net for the home side.
An open Cameron Menard got one back for the hosts while up a skater as he swatted in a Jack Anderson pass from the corner for his league-leading 18th of the season.
That proved to be the night’s final marker as the Rock skated away with the road victory.
With the outcome, Timmins raises their record to 14-7-0-0 and in defeat, Espanola falls to 8-10-2-0.
