IROQUOIS FALLS, Ont. – The surging Timmins Rock skated to their ninth straight Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League victory Saturday with a 5-2 triumph over the Iroquois Falls Storm at Jus Jordan Arena.
Converting on a first period power play, Timmins notched the night’s initial tally off some nice puck movement that resulted in Lucas Lowe snapping in a shot from the left of Storm netminder Justin Sullivan at 12:53.
Extending their lead five minutes into the middle stanza, the Rock’s Sam Gallagher worked his way through multiple defenders then went in and smartly picked the right-hand corner.
Staying 2-0 Timmins into the third period, the Rock tacked on two more before the seven-minute mark of the session to add to their cushion.
Reece Liu on a man advantage saw him snipe one from the right side at 3:49.
Lowe then notched his second of the evening a couple of shifts later as he found himself alone in front and hammered in a feed out from the end boards.
Iroquois Falls eventually solved Timmins netminder Graham Gee with 9:07 to go as Isaiah Felix started a rush up ice with speed and dashed into the Rock zone before finishing off his chance.
Pulling to within two six minutes later, Jaden Lyons jammed in a loose puck laying in the crease for his sixth marker of the season.
Coming right back on the next shift to secure the road victory, Thomas Beard chipped one in with bodies battling in front in wrapping up the night’s scoring.
Continuing their torrid pace, Timmins moves to 19-7-0-0 on the year while in defeat, Iroquois Falls dipped to 9-15-0-1.
