Bobcats edge Nickel Barons 3-2

SUDBURY – John Follmer had a goal and two assists while netminder Cory Simic turned in a stellar 49-save performance to help propel the Elliot Lake Bobcats to a 3-2 victory over the Sudbury Nickel Barons Wednesday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at McClelland Arena in Copper Cliff.

The visiting Bobcats grabbed an early lead as captain Kyle Rowe struck just 23 seconds into the contest.

Sudbury pulled level before the opening frame was out with Cory Vaillancourt notching his fifth goal of the season at 13:10.

A Brad Hollman power play marker put Elliot Lake back on top nearly eight minutes into in the middle session only to see August Jarecki knot the score at 15:42.

However Follmer answered back 30 seconds later with the game-winner with Simic doing the rest as the Bobcats improved to 3-0-0-1 when scoring first and 4-13-0-1 overall.

Alex Laino faced 26 shots in a losing cause in net for Sudbury who fell 10-9 on the campaign.

League action resumes Friday with the Elliot Lake at home to Blind River and the Soo Thunderbirds visiting Kirkland Lake in a pair of 7:30 p.m. starts.
