Abitibi lights up Blind River

IROQUOIS FALLS – The Abitibi Eskimos built up a 5-0 lead after one period of play and never looked back as they blasted the Blind River Beavers 11-2 Saturday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at Jus Jordan Arena.

Brenden Locke began a five-point night by notching a hat trick in the opening stanza while Nick Minerva and Brady Clouthier supplied singles.

Abitibi continued to pour it on in the middle session tacking on five more tallies with the Beavers getting one to get on the board.

Clouthier, Ryan Attwood, Brennan Roy and Michael Rancourt made it 9-0 before Blind River’s Dallas Miller picked up one for the visitors midway through the frame.

Roy however added his second of the night, via the power play, before the stanza was complete.

After Alex Hulford struck shorthanded for the Beavers at 6:13 of the third, Roy finished off a three-goal night to wrap up the offensive outburst.

Seven different skaters on the Eskimos had three or more points on the night led by Locke’s five with Roy and Clouthier having four apiece.

Chet Tooker made 13 stops to pick up the win in net for Abitibi, who fired 45 on the Blind River duo of Zach Mills and Nick Kazmierczak as they both saw time between the pipes.

With the results the Eskimos improved to 4-3-0-1 while the winless Beavers slipped to 0-7.
