Beavers improve to 2-0 with home win over Wildcats

BLIND RIVER, Ont. – The Blind River Beavers trio of Devon Savignac, Justin Mauro and Caleb Serre combined for 10 points as part of a 6-2 triumph over the Elliot Lake Wildcats in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action Saturday at the Blind River Community Centre.

Savignac notched his initial NOJHL hat trick in the decision, while Mauro dished out four assists and Serre scored once and helped set-up three more in the Blind River victory.

The Beavers gained the upper hand early in this one, skating out to a 3-0 lead after one period of play on markers from Jackson Legro, Lucas Adams and Savignac.

It was more Blind River in the middle session as Serre and Savignac found the back of the net to put the home side up by five after 40 minutes.

Savignac then completed his three-tally night 5:48 of the third to extend the Blind River cushion.

Elliot Lake would dash Beavers’ starter Charles Lapage’s shutout bid a couple of shifts later as Austin Brunet put the Wildcats on the board.

The visitors’ Brunet added one more in the final moments to round out the scoring.

Lapage did finish with 26 saves to record the win in his league debut while Elliot Lake netminder Dominic Boily faced 38 shots in defeat.
