Berger and Bobcats bump Beavers 6-4

ELLIOT LAKE – Henry Berger tallied twice, including the game-winner, and set-up one other to lead the Elliot Lake Bobcats to a 6-4 victory over the Blind River Beavers Friday evening in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at Centennial Arena on a night that inclement weather and highway closures cause the postponement of two other contests that were originally on the slate.

The two sides combined for five goals in the opening frame with Coty Thomas, Steve Gaul and Berger scoring for the Bobcats while Cray Roberge and Paul Muio countered for the Beavers.

Elliot Lake jumped out to a 5-3 lead after 40 minutes on markers by Brian Henessey and Berger with Tyler Brown replying for Blind River.

After Nick Tassone increased the for the home side early in the final stanza Corey McEwen tacked one on late for visitors to round out the scoring.

Cory Simic made 25 saves to register the win for the Bobcats who improved to 8-20-0-1 on the campaign.

Blind River starter Brock Crossthwaite suffered the loss finishing up with 26 stops.

Another newcomer in Joseph Lynch faced seven shots while allowing one goal in six and half minutes of relief in the second period.

With the loss the Beavers saw a three-game winning streak come to an end as they fell to 8-18-2-4 on the campaign.

As mentioned, two other NOJHL games were to have been played Friday, but were postponed due to the weather and road conditions.

The Abitibi Eskimos – Soo Thunderbirds neutral site match-up in Timmins and the Sudbury at Kirkland Lake contest will both be made up at a later date.
