Hewitt steps down as Wildcats coach to join CIS side; Bricknell named new bench boss

ELLIOT LAKE, Ont. – The Elliot Lake Wildcats of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Thursday that head coach Nathan Hewitt has stepped down from his position with the Wildcats organization in order to accept a coaching position with a major Canadian University.

Further details cannot be released at this time pending an announcement from his new team.

“Nathan was an integral part of the Wildcat organization, which in two short years positioned our team as one of the top squads in the NOJHL and earned us national recognition,” stated Elliot Lake team president Howard Hennessey.

“Nathan will be sadly missed by fans and supporters in Wildcat Country,” added Hennessey.

“This is a major step forward in Nathan’s coaching career and the Wildcats organization wishes him much success.”

With Hewitt’s departure, the Elliot Lake Wildcats are proud to announce that Corey Bricknell has been hired as the new head coach of the club, effective August 1.

Bricknell comes over from the Iroquois Falls Eskis where he served as their coach and assistant general manager this past season.

“Corey is a very personable individual with outstanding coaching credentials; and will have an immediate impact on the community and our team,” said Hennessey.

“The Elliot Lake Wildcats are extremely privileged to have secured the services of a coach of Corey’s calibre.”
