KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – Alex Little’s early three-point outburst, including a pair of goals, helped send the Powassan Voodoos on their way to a convincing 7-1 victory over the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners Saturday evening in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League affair at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.

Little got his first marker of the night as he used a quick give-and-go with Ryan Patrick before picking the bottom left corner on Kirkland Lake starter Ethan Barron with a well-placed snap shot.

He then jumped into a shorthanded rush with Thomas Gazich on a two-on-one and made no mistake while right on top of Barron.

Powassan kept coming and tacked on another to claim early control in the contest with Jack Kelly chipping one in from the right of the crease that resulted off a Little dump in.

A fourth in the session came when the visitors were on a man advantage that helped Chase Strychaluk whip one in from a difficult angle.

The Gold Miners notched one prior to the intermission break as they came out on an odd-man rush and saw Luca Maiuri opt to shoot while firing one over the glove of goalkeeper Daniel Dirracolo.

Restoring their four-goal cushion deep into the middle session, Austin Vassos led a rush up ice and put a shot off the pad of Barron that was promptly swatted in by Cameron Lemcke at 19:06.

Adding to the road triumph in the third, Voodoos’ defenceman Mitch Wilkie joined in on an odd-man rush and buried a Mathiu MacMillan feed.

Chase Thompson then capped off the night scoring in the final minute with a quick wrist shot.

The Voodoos move to 30-11-1-0 on the year with the win while the Gold Miners fell to 5-36-1-0.
