NOJHL named its initial Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week for 2023-24

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) announced Monday that forward Oliver Smith (Greater Sudbury Cubs), along with defencemen Spencer Horgan (Espanola Paper Kings) and Alex Little (Powassan Voodoos) have been named its initial Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week for the 2023-24 season.

OLIVER SMITH, (F) GREATER SUDBURY CUBS – In a pair of home ice victories, Smith supplied six points for the Cubs, helping them start of the season at 2-0.

After helping set-up the winner in a triumph over Hearst on opening night, the 20-year-old Lively, Ont., product matched a personal single-game high with five points Friday in a decision versus Timmins.

Dating back to last season, the Cubs’ captain has registered points in eight consecutive outings, amassing eight goals and 12 assists in that span.

SPENCER HORGAN, (D) ESPANOLA PAPER KINGS – A key contributor to both of the Paper Kings’ victories over the weekend, Horgan produced six points in all.

Hailing from Bowmanville, Ont., the 18-year-old blueliner tallied twice and dished out a couple of helpers in helping Espanola outscore Hearst Friday, then followed that up with two assists in a triumph against the Soo Thunderbirds Saturday.

The second-year defenceman holds the early lead in offensive production among NOJHL rearguards, in a category he finished fourth in last season, while also pacing all rookie D-men scoring in 2022-23.

ALEX LITTLE (D) POWASSAN VOODOOS – Closing in on the Powassan franchise record for career points by a defenceman, the Voodoos’ captain began his 2023-24 campaign in style.

Friday evening he assisted on the eventual game-winner, added two more helpers, then notched a power play goal, while playing solid defensively in a shutout over visiting French River.

The 20-year-old from Minden, Ont., already has 23 multi-point performances in his time with Powassan that also seen him provide 90 points in his first 105 NOJHL outings.
