NOJHL names its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) announced Monday that goaltender Marino Ramirez (Soo Eagles); defenceman Kaden Dundas (SooThunderbirds) and forward Jakob Kovacs (Blind River Beavers), have been named its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending October 8.

MARINO RAMIREZ, (G) SOO EAGLES: Getting the starting nod three times last week, Ramirez came away with wins in each of them, helping the soaring Eagles continue their solid play that has seen them go 8-0-0-1 in their last nine outings.

The 20-year-old Illinois product from Chicago registered a 1.67 goals-against average in his trio of triumphs and was credited with a save percentage of .938.

Having won each of his past five starts, Ramirez has only allowed nine pucks to get past him during this solid run for the Michigan Soo.

KADEN DUNDAS, (D) SOO THUNDERBIRDS:
Playing a pivotal role in all three Thunderbirds’ wins during the time frame, Dundas registered seven points along the way.

This included two tallies, featuring a late game-winner during the NOJHL Showcase in Sudbury, as well as dishing out five assists.

The veteran blueliner has appeared in 131 league contests, including playoffs, for his hometown Sault Ste. Marie side and has collected 99 points on 23 tallies and 76 helpers from the back-end.

JAKOB KOVACS, (F) BLIND RIVER BEAVERS: Chipping in offensively in Blind River’s four winning results last week saw Kovacs provide points in each of them, and also found the back of the net in three contests, that saw him pick-up five goals in total.

The 20-year-old from Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., registered his second and third multi-marker game of the season to top the Beavers in tallies to date with 10, which also ties him for third overall among all league skaters.

Now in his fourth NOJHL season, Kovacs has supplied 131 points in his time in the league, which has seen him appear on 136 occasions.
