Powassan Voodoos sign 1st player

POWASSAN — The Powassan Voodoos targeted a local defenceman with their first signing in team history.

The new NOJHL franchise, which is an affiliate of the North Bay Battalion, has signed North Bay Midget AAA Trappers graduating defenceman Josh Ibbitson.

The Callander product scored 6 goals and added 20 assists in 29 games in his final year of midget hockey in the Great North Midget League.

On top of that, Ibbitson was named the Great North Midget League’s Top Defenceman.

“I want to continue to improve, and grow as a hockey player, and there is no better way to do so,” said Ibbitson.

“It’s close to home and I get to play with a new, well organized franchise.”

Voodoos President Jim Bruce believes Ibbitson is a perfect fit for the club’s first signing.

“Not only is he a local player, but Josh also has family from Powassan so it’s a great start for us,” said Bruce.

Voodoos GM Chris Dawson feels the signing is a good start, with the club hosting its first ever free agent camp on the July 19th and 20th weekend in North Bay.

“Josh was recruited by some top end junior A teams from across the country,” noted Dawson.

“We are glad Josh believes in this new program.  Every team needs a good puck moving defenceman like Josh.”

Dawson adds the club expects to announce a few more signings prior to the start of their Free Agent Camp.
