KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – Timmins Rock netminder Patrick Boivin stopped every shot he faced Saturday to post his Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League-leading third shutout of the season in blanking the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners 4-0 at Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.
An early Timmins power play helped them gain the lead three and a half minutes into the match-up with Lucas Piekarczyk chipping the puck over the pad of Kirkland Lake starter John Lloyd off a pass across from a falling Brady Harroun.
The Rock tacked on two quick tallies in the middle frame, beginning with Lucas Lowe taking a Nicholas Moore feed off an odd-man rush, and firing it high past Lloyd from the left wing for his first NOJHL goal.
Coming right back, Moore made it 3-0 just 37 seconds later as his attempt from just inside the blueline caught the Gold Miners netminder off guard from long range.
Capping off the victory in the third, Kenyon Nyman whipped a shot from the point that sailed past everyone and in at 8:51.
Boivin and the Timmins defensive corps did the rest to pick up their fourth consecutive victory.
