Sudbury skates past Blind River

BLIND RIVER – Kyle Fransen scored once and doled out two assists to help the Sudbury Nickel Barons defeat the Blind River Beavers 5-1 Saturday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest held at the Blind River Community Centre.

Special teams allowed Sudbury to take a 2-0 lead after one period as Fransen set-up August Jarecki and Matt Neault for power play tallies.

Fransen’s man advantage effort extended the Nickel Barons lead in the second before the Beavers Trent Linklater connected with his side up a skater with 69 seconds left in the middle stanza.

In the final frame Neault completed a three-point night of his own by scoring once and assisting on another by Danny Lepage to round out the scoring.

Christopher Rossi chipped in with two assists to aid Sudbury’s offensive cause.

Nickel Barons’ affiliate goaltender Brayden Lachance made 29 saves in his NOJHL debut to register the victory.

Zach Mills faced 39 shots in defeat for Blind River.
