Voodoos skate to 25th win in a row

IROQUOIS FALLS, Ont. – The hottest team in the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League won for a 25th consecutive time Saturday evening as they defeated the Iroquois Falls Eskis 3-0 at Jus Jordan Arena.

Andrew Suriano made 25 saves to post his first NOJHL shutout for the surging Voodoos, who are ranked second in the entire 132-team Canadian Junior Hockey League.

Neither side would connect in a scoreless first frame.

Powassan did get the eventual game-winner near the six-minute mark of the middle stanza thanks to Brett Hahkala’s 11th tally of the campaign.

Special teams allowed the Voodoos to extend their cushion late in the second as defenceman Dayton Murray scored on the play at 19:41.

It remained 2-0 for the visitors until late in regulation when Tyler Gervais-Rolfe iced it with an empty netter with 45 seconds remaining to wrap things up.

Trevor Hawkes was solid, despite the loss, for Iroquois Falls making 38 saves along the way.
