NOJHL announces its weekly Eastlink 3 Stars
Thunderbirds’ Kozluk; Canadians’ Ton & Rapids’ Gaudreau earn weekly accolades

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that forwards Austin Kozluk of the Soo Thunderbirds, Cayse Ton of the Rayside-Balfour Canadians and Christian Gaudreau of the French River Rapids have been named its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the week for the period ending Feb. 19.

AUSTIN KOZLUK, (F) SOO THUNDERBIRDS – In two games last week Kozluk scored in both of them helping the Thunderbirds extend their current unbeaten streak to nine, which features nine victories and a tie.

The 20-year-old from Mono, Ont., began by supplying the game-winning goal Friday as Sault Ste. Marie clinched the NOJHL West Division title with a decision at Blind River.

He then added his 23rd marker of the season in an away triumph at Rayside-Balfour Sunday.

With goals in four consecutive games and points in each of his past six contests as well as 12 of his last 13, Kozluk now sits third on the T-Birds in offensive production with 39 points.

The Soo forward is also one of three on his team and 28 across the entire league that has 20 or more tallies to his credit so far in 2016-17.

CAYSE TON, (F) RAYSIDE-BALFOUR CANADIANS – In three games last week the 17-year-old New Liskeard, Ont., native amassed eight points for Rayside-Balfour on the ice.

Ton began by notching a career single-game high five points, including his first NOJHL hat trick, in a win at French River Friday.

The following night he registered his 30th league marker overall and dished out a pair of assists in a setback against Blind River.

After 50 games played this season, Ton sits tied for third on the Canadians in scoring with 38 points on 14 tallies and 24 helpers.

CHRISTIAN GAUDREAU, (F) FRENCH RIVER RAPIDS – As the second youngest player in the NOJHL behind only Keegan Stevenson of the Soo Thunderbirds, Gaudreau, who turns 17 in early September, played in a pivotal role in helping French River snap a lengthy winless drought.

Among his offensive efforts last week was supplying two goals, including the game-winner, and dishing out four assists in the Rapids 8-6 triumph at Iroquois Falls Saturday.

Gaudreau also added a tally in a setback at Cochrane on Sunday.

The Val Caron, Ont., product is presently tied for eighth in NOJHL rookie scoring with 34 points on 13 tallies and 21 assists.

Gaudreau has also supplied the game-winning marker in both of French River’s victories this season.
