NOJHL names its Eastlink 3 Stars of the week

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that forwards William Bucsis of the Elliot Lake Wildcats and Giordano Finoro of the Rayside-Baflour Canadians along with Cochrane Crunch defenceman Noah Bennett have been named its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending Oct. 1.

WILLIAM BUCSIS, (F) ELLIOT LAKE WILDCATS – A five-assist weekend by Bucsis helped Elliot Lake pick up three of a possible four points in the league standings and move them to within two points of a share of both top spot in the NOJHL West Division and first place overall.

A month away from turning 20, the Saskatoon, Sask., product started off by setting up two tallies in a double overtime setback vs. Blind River Friday.

Saturday he matched a career single-game high assist mark with three to aid in the Wildcats win vs. the Beavers.

After 10 games, Bucsis leads the Wildcats in offensive production with 13 points while his 11 assists presently pace all NOJHL skaters.

GIORDANO FINORO, (F) RAYSIDE-BALFOUR CANADIANS – Finoro’s NOJHL debut last week went as well as one could expect as he scored an amazing five times in his first league game.

The 19-year-old from Guelph, Ont., accomplished the feat Friday in a Rayside-Balfour triumph over Espanola.

His early offensive outburst put him the team lead in goals early in his tenure with the Canadians.

NOAH BENNETT, (D) COCHRANE CRUNCH – The 20-year-old blueliner from Hanover, Ont., chipped in with four points helping the Crunch pick up a pair of victories over the weekend as well as see them extend a modest win streak to three in the process.

Bennet began dishing out a pair of assists, including one on the game-winner, as Cochrane cooled off surging French River Thursday at Tim Horton Event Centre.

Saturday night he added two more helpers as the Crunch handed the Powassan Voodoos a rare home loss.

Through eight outings, Bennett is tied for fourth in league scoring among defencemen with seven points. His seven total assists knot him for second among D-men.
