Trappers trounce Eskimos

NORTH BAY – The North Bay Trappers received multiple-point performance from nine different players en route to a 9-1 victory over the visiting Abitibi Eskimos Sunday afternoon in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at Memorial Gardens.

North Bay took a 2-1 lead after one period getting tallies from Tyler Peters and Brennen Dubchak, which were sandwiched around Justin Holliday’s first goal in an Abitibi uniform.

The Trappers took full control in the middle stanza finding the back of the net five times to go up six after 40 minutes.

Graham Pickard, Trevor Hunt, Tait Seguin, Duane Wainman and Brandon Janke were the North Bay marksmen in that second session.

Hunt and Pickard struck again in the final frame to round out the afternoon’s scoring.

Kyle Arenson, Daniel Carter, Connor Gilmartin, Samuel Blanchet and Seguin all dished out two assists apiece in the romp.

Dustin Hummel made 29 stops to pick up the win in net for North Bay while Jeremy Laux faced 42 shots in a losing cause for Abitibi.

With the triumph the first place Trappers improve to 31-7-3-3 on the season while the struggling Eskimos saw their winless streak reach 10 games, dropping to 12-27-0-3 overall.

League action resumes tonight as the Soo Thunderbirds host the Blind River Beavers in a 7 p.m. start at Essar Centre.
