Voodoos’ Israels; Eagles’ Techel; Canadians’ Spadafore named Eastlink 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that forwards Harrison Israels of the Powassan Voodoos and Nick Techel of the Soo Eagles as well as Rayside-Balfour Canadians defenceman Jordan Spadafore have been named its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending Oct. 22.

HARRISON ISRAELS, (F) POWASSAN VOODOOS – It was an impressive week for the first-year forward as he helped lift 13-2 Powassan to a pair of victories.

The 18-year-old from Mississauga, Ont., began by notching his first NOJHL hat trick last Monday in a home triumph vs. Timmins.

He then capped off his week by dishing out a career-high four assists as the Voodoos came away victorious at Espanola Saturday.

Israels is presently second in league rooking scoring with 18 points in 14 outings with his 10 tallies tying him for top spot among rookies.

NICK TECHEL, (F) SOO EAGLES – Averaging two points-per-game last week the 18-year-old Techel, who hails from Wausau, Wis., aided the Eagles in securing four points in the standings.

Beginning with an assist in a narrow 3-2 loss vs. Blind River, Techel scored once in a 3-2 rematch win against the Beavers before wrapping up his run by playing a role in all four goals his side scored in a 4-3 triumph over the rival Soo Thunderbirds.

In that contest he scored once and had three assists, including helping set-up the game-winner.

Techel is tied for fourth overall in league offensive production with 23 points in 14 games having scored eight times while setting up 15 others.

JORDAN SPADFORE, (D) RAYSIDE-BALFOUR CANADIANS – A solid start to the season continues for Spadafore as he is not only helping anchor the Canadians’ defensive core, but he’s also producing offensively.

Last week saw him pick-up three points while bolstering the back-end as Rayside-Balfour won twice more to extend their current winning streak to six games.

The 17-year-old from Sudbury is also on a roll himself having registered points in 10 consecutive outings as well as in 13 of his past 14.

Spadafore now leads the Canadians in scoring with a goal and 15 assists, which matches his total from his rookie campaign of 2016-17.

He is also second among all NOJHL defencemen in offensive production.
