Voodoos move to 10-0

POWASSAN, Ont. – A pair of late third period goals allowed the Powassan Voodoos to pull out their 10th straight Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League victory Saturday, a 5-3 decision over the Soo Eagles at the Powassan Sportsplex.

The Voodoos got off to a great start taking a 2-0 lead in the opening stanza on goals by Nathaniel McLeod and Nick Siracuse.

Sault Ste. Marie matched those markers with two of their own under two minutes apart off the sticks of Nate Harris and Alex DiBacco.

After Siracuse put Powassan back in front at 16:05 of the second, the Eagles drew even once again thanks to Harris in the final seconds of the period.

Moving to the third and with overtime looming, the Voodoos won it late thanks to Steve Harland at 18:27.

They then iced the win with an empty net effort courtesy of Christian Whitcomb with 48 seconds remaining to round out the scoring.

Garrett Forrest stopped 21 of 24 to earn the win while Mario Cavaliere made two saves in a five-minute relief appearance in the first period.

Jack Hickey was peppered with 50 shots in a losing cause for the Eagles.
