3rd period comeback sends Voodoos over Rock

POWASSAN, Ont. – The Powassan Voodoos stormed back from a 2-0 third period deficit by erupting for five unanswered goals to shock the Timmins Rock 5-2 Friday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at the Powassan Sportsplex.

After a scoreless opening frame, Timmins struck twice in the middle stanza to go up by a pair starting with Tyler Romain’s 28th at 1:24 and Jordan Rendle’s 31st at 16:06.

Powassan began their comeback 98 seconds into the final frame as Ryan Theriault collected his 14th of the campaign.

The Voodoos tied it at 3:56 as Ryan Bazzana while Dayton Murray buried the game-winner less than a minute later as he converted 11 seconds into a man advantage opportunity.

The offensive outburst continued moments into another power play as Gary Mantz picked up his 32nd of the season at 5:31.

Powassan then capped off the rally with a late empty netter from Dylan D’Agostino at 18:55 to wrap things up.

Rhys Brown, Murray and Ryan Bazzana each chipped in with two assists each in the third to help in the comeback triumph.

Nate McDonald made 30 stops to record his league-leading 27th win of the season.

Al Rogers allowed four against on 44 shots in defeat for Timmins.
