Atchison’s 5 paces Crunch past Rapids
COCHRANE, Ont. – Hunter Atchison scored five times Friday night to help pace the Cochrane Crunch to a 7-1 triumph over the French River Rapids in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at Tim Horton Event Centre.
Atchison, who extended a consecutive game point streak to eight in the game, has been dominant having only been held off the score sheet once in Cochrane’s 19 games played to date as he ran his league-leading point total to 53.
French River got on the board first in this one getting a power play marker from Tyler McGregor 5:19 into the contest.
The Crunch would tie it just over three minutes later with Atchison’s first of the game and 20th overall.
Cochrane broke it open in the middle frame striking four times on a pair by Atchison and singles supplied by captain Connor Lovie’s, who notched his first of the season, and Tyler Minoletti’s sixth.
The home side then put the game away in the third as Atchison capped off his five-goal night with two more to round out the scoring.
Seamus Maguire and Jeran Knorr dished out three assists each to aid the offensive cause for the winners.
Crunch affiliate netminder Nicholas Dube made 26 saves to pick up the win for Cochrane.
French River netminder Zach Mills faced 50 shots in defeat.
