Beavers win streak reaches six with decision over Wildcats

BLIND RIVER, Ont. – Rolling right along the Blind River Beavers won their sixth Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest in succession Saturday as they knocked off the Elliot Lake Wildcats 4-1 at the Blind River Community Centre.

Anthony Pullicino staked the home side to the lead 11:30 into the contest with the lone tally of the first period.

Blind River then went up 2-0 in the second stanza on a Mark Bastianello effort six and a half minutes into the frame.

Max Khull added to the Beavers’ cushion later in the session before Elliot Lake got one back courtesy of David Elford at 17:34.

Blind River maintained their lead throughout the third and then iced it as Khull finished things off with an empty netter with three seconds to go.

Yianni Liarakos and Dylan McMahon dished out two assists apiece for the winners.

Myles Hektor finished with 29 saves to earn the win in goal for the Beavers.

Justin Richer faced 47 shots in defeat for the Wildcats.

With 13 victories already this season, it marks the most Blind River has had since the 2012-13 campaign when they also had 13. They had won 25 times back in 2010-11.
