CHELMSFORD, Ont. – Ryan Mooney and Kyle Liinamaa both had a goal and two assists, including the duo helping set-up the game-winner, as their respective three-point nights led the Rayside-Balfour Canadians to a 5-1 triumph over the Elliot Lake Wildcats in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action Thursday at Chelmsford Arena.
The contest was scoreless well into the second stanza when Rayside-Balfour erupted for four goals in a seven-and-a-half-minute span to break things open.
Jett Leishman started the outburst at 9:18 with his ninth of the season while Noah Serre added his 11th a mere 46 seconds later.
The Canadians weren’t done there as they went on to tack on two more before the period was complete as Liinamaa registered his 19th followed by Zachary Snow’s second to put the home side up by four heading into the final frame.
In the third, Mooney extended Rayside-Balfour’s cushion midway through the frame with help from Liinamaa and Ethan Lavallee.
Elliot Lake would eventually dash Canadians’ goaltender Sebastien Plamondon’s shutout bid with 5:58 remaining on a Caleb Minns marker as his 14th rounded out the night’s scoring.
Plamondon did finish with 25 stops however to record the win for RBC.
Wildcats starter Dominic Boily faced 37 shots in defeat.
