Cochrane crunches Iroquois Falls

COCHRANE, Ont. – The Cochrane Crunch jumped out to a 3-0 first period lead and never looked back as they defeated the Iroquois Falls Eskis 7-1 Friday night in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at the Tim Horton Event Centre.

The contest was scoreless until the 9:07 mark of the opening stanza when Seamus Maguire collected his first NOJHL tally.

Cochrane made it 2-0 a minute and a half later off the stick of Zachary Renfrew while John Stevenson added another via the power play to put the Crunch in early control.

Special teams played a part in both markers the home side collected in the middle session as Jeran Knorr had one during a man advantage opportunity while Hunter Atchison’s initial marker in league play came with the Crunch shorthanded.

Atchison added another four minutes into the third to make it 6-0 Cochrane before the Eskis put an end to Brett Young’s shutout bid with 3:49 to go as Brett Ouderkirk notched his club’s lone goal on the evening.

Dustin Cordeiro then capped off the night’s scoring in the late stages to cap off the impressive victory for the Crunch.

The winning side got three assists from Maguire to give him a four-point night.

Knorr had a pair of helpers as well for Cochrane as did Cordeiro.

Shots on goal on the night favoured the Crunch 39-35 with Young picking up the win and Josh Horner the loss.
