COCHRANE, Ont. – The Cochrane Crunch defeated the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners 4-2 Friday night in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest at Tim Horton Event Centre in a preview of an upcoming East Division playoff match-up the two sides will have later this month.
Kirkland Lake snagged a 1-0 lead after one period of play thanks to a Joshua Maine effort.
They then went up by two 13:04 into the middle stanza as Maine scored on the power play for his second of the night and third overall.
Cochrane countered however a few shifts later with a man advantage marker of their own as Crunch captain Connor Lovie pumped home his 15th goal of the season.
The home side then drew level early in the third compliments of Gordon Whalen and then picked up the eventual game-winner off a Levi Johnson power play tally at 6:45.
They then capped off the comeback 10 minutes later with Austin Whelan adding some insurance.
Thomas Hernandez and Kyle Herbster chipped in with two assists apiece for Cochrane.
The two helpers for Herbster gives him 50 on the season while he also extended his NOJHL-leading overall point total to 86.
Shayne Battler made 25 saves to pick-up the win for the Crunch while Ryan Winter was peppered with 48 shots in defeat for the Gold Miners.
