BLIND RIVER, Ont. – Iroquois Falls Storm goaltender Maverick Fletcher was flawless, in being credited with stopping all 36 shots he faced, to shutout the Blind River Beavers 2-0 Sunday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League afternoon affair at the Blind River Recreation Centre.
Iroquois Falls started well by notching the day’s initial tally, 90 seconds in.
On the marker, the Storm’s Carter Jamieson skated into the Beavers’ zone and ripped a shot, through bodies, past goaltender Bronx Bodnar.
The visitors then took a 2-0 lead late in the first period by converting on a man advantage as Brayden Hindmann snagged a loose puck in the neutral zone, then wheeled into the Blind River end where he buried an attempt from the right circle.
Moving to the middle stanza, the hosts pushed hard to get on the board, but Fletcher held firm as the Storm carried their two-goal cushion into the second intermission.
It was more of the same in the final frame as the Beavers could not solve the Iroquois Falls netminder.
Getting Bodnar out deep in regulation, as part of an attempt to score with the extra skater, the home side could not convert as Iroquois Falls skated away with the narrow road victory.
The outcome sees the Storm raise their record to 7-12-0-0, while the defeat saw Blind River fall to 10-7-1-0.
