SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) announced Monday that forward Cayden Kowal (Powassan Voodoos); defenceman Adam Shillinglaw (Hearst Lumberjacks) and forward Hunter Vilanez (French River Rapids) have been named its BrokerLink Insurance 3 Stars of the Week, for the period ending Nov. 3.
Cayden Kowal, (F) Powassan Voodoos: Collecting the game-winning goal in both of Powassan’s victories last week, Kowal now has three straight deciding tallies to his credit for the Voodoos.
The 18-year-old from nearby North Bay, notched a trio of markers in all, and dished out a couple of assists, helping his side run a winning streak to four.
Currently riding a six-game heater, Kowal has 14 points in that span, in moving up into a share of fourth overall in NOJHL scoring, with 23 in total.
Adam Shillinglaw, (D) Hearst Lumberjacks: The veteran blueliner’s efforts from the back-end aided in the Lumberjacks picking up five of a possible six points on a three-game road trip.
Shillinglaw had a couple of goals and helped set-up three others during the weekend stint.
Hailing from New Liskeard, Ont., the 20-year-old Hearst captain currently paces all NOJHL defencemen in offensive production with 18 points, in 17 contests. He’s also only been held off the game sheet once in his past nine match-ups.
Hunter Vilanez, (F) French River Rapids: Scoring five times last week, Vilanez converted once on a penalty shot, another during a power play and one while shorthanded as part of his contributions for the Rapids.
Adding two more at even strength, and chipping in with an assist, he capped off his efforts offensively for French River with six points.
Still just 17, the Toronto product now leads all league rookies in goals with 11 and his 22 points leaves him just one shy of a tie for top spot among first-year skaters in the NOJHL.
