HEARST, Ont. – The Hearst Lumberjacks came back from a pair of one-goal deficits, with a trio of third period tallies, to upend the Timmins Rock 4-2 Sunday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest at Claude Larose Recreation Centre.
Neither side would convert offensively in a scoreless first frame, thanks in part to the efforts of netminders Patrick Boivin, for Timmins, and Hearst’s Tristan Boileau.
In the second stanza, the Rock opened the scoring in transition which resulted in Jaden Lyons firing a feed from the right side in front to an open Ryan Armitage, who was left with plenty of room to deposit his seventh marker of the season.
Drawing even during a power play at 11:29, the Lumberjacks’ Aiden Kalin connected as he jammed in a rebound off a Noah Janicki point shot that just got over the glove of a downed Boivin.
Retaking the lead two and a half minutes later, Timmins went back in front off some crisp puck movement that saw Thomas Beard make a nice move in on Boileau and lift one into right corner.
Early in the third, Hearst notched another equalizer, moments into a man advantage, as Liam Boswell tapped in Jack Robinson attempt that rang off the post and landed inches from the goal line.
Building on that, Patterson blasted one in from the between the hash marks just past the midway mark of the period for the eventual game-winner.
Continuing to press, Mathieu Comeau added another for the Lumberjacks as he won a draw then went to net and collected a rebound off a right point shot, then stuffed it past Boivin.
The proved to be the final goal of the game as the Lumberjacks picked up the win and improved to 20-11-3-2 overall.
In defeat, the Rock fall to 24-11-2-0.
