TIMMINS, Ont. – The Hearst Lumberjacks used goals from five different skaters to help them finish off a home-and-home weekend sweep of the Timmins Rock Saturday at they skated to a 5-3 triumph in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at McIntyre Arena in front of 926 spectators.
Down a man midway through the first frame, Hearst struck shorthanded thanks to Max Griffioen’s 17th tally of the season to commence the night’s scoring.
The Lumberjacks then added to their cushion later in the session as Jake Desando connected on the power play as he too joined Griffioen at the 17-goal plateau.
Heading to the middle session, the visitors went up by three early thanks to J.J. Berdal at 1:29.
Timmins cut into the deficit though two minutes later though as Derek Seguin sniped his team-leading 23rd to put the home side on the board.
Continuing to battle, the Rock pulled to within one at 17:30 compliments of Darcy Haupt, but a late man advantage helped Hearst go up 4-2 when Bradley Golant picked up his 10th of the campaign in the final minute.
Heading to the third period, Blaise Arkle helped put the game away at 8:14 with his 12th.
Riley Robitaille did get one back for Timmins in the latter stages of the match-up, but it would be the final marker of the evening before time expired.
Maxim Lacroix dished out two assists to aid in the Lumberjacks’ triumph.
Nicholas Tallarico in the Hearst net finished with 36 stops to record the win while Jean-Marc Brisson faced 31 shots in defeat for the Rock
