NOJHL maintains 4 in CJHL rankings

SUDBURY – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League is once again well represented in the latest edition of the Canadian Junior Hockey League Pointstreak Top 20 ranking announced Monday as four clubs earned recognition.

In the latest listings, which are compiled in conjunction with International Scouting Services, sees the Soo Thunderbirds tabbed in third spot in the 131-team CJHL while the Powassan Voodoos and Cochrane Crunch come in at in 13th and 14th respectively and the Dudley-Hewitt Cup host Kirkland Lake Gold Miners secured honourable mention status.

Sporting a 42-5-1-0 record Sault Ste. Marie continues to hold down top spot in the overall NOJHL standings and requires just one point to secure the No. 1 seed and home ice advantage for the upcoming league playoffs.

Powassan (39-9-3-1) and Cochrane (38-9-2-2) meanwhile are neck-and-neck in the race for first place in the league East Division standings with only two points separating them with the Crunch holding one game in hand on the Voodoos.

As for Kirkland Lake, they are 36-12-2-1 and sit third in the NOJHL East.

Winners of 19 games in succession, the defending RBC Cup national Jr. A champion Portage Terriers (MJHL) are the new No. 1 side in the CJHL this week with the Penticton Vees (BCHL) slipping to No. 2 overall.
