TIMMINS, Ont. – A Tyson Gilmour tally 6:23 into the third period proved to be the game-winner as the visiting Powassan Voodoos rallied for a 5-2 victory over the Timmins Rock Sunday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League encounter at McIntyre Arena.

The opening 20 minutes saw Timmins set the tone early as they grabbed a 2-0 lead after one period of play on markers from A.J. Campbell at 3:47 and Tyler Planetta, who connected with just 37 seconds left in the frame.

Powassan started their comeback near the midway mark of the middle stanza as Quintin Loon-Stewardson supplied his 10th tally of the season, during a Voodoos power play, with assists going to Cameron Moore and Dayton Murray.

Heading into the third, Powassan drew level 40 seconds in on another man advantage opportunity that saw Shane Beauleau supply the equalizer early in the session.

That set the stage for Gilmour’s difference maker with Kobe Desmond and Eric Mondoux picking up assists on the offensive effort.

The Voodoos would go up by two later in the third as Harrison Israels was awarded a penalty shot and he made no mistake in beating Timmins starter Eric Jackson for his 20th goal of the season.

Powassan’s Desmond added another to round out the scoring 3:13 left with the Rock’s Jackson being injured on the play, which resulted in back-up Jordan Yaremchuk coming in the rest of the way in relief.

Christian Cicigoi made 24 stops to pick-up up the win for the league-leading Voodoos who raised their record to a NOJHL-best 23-3-1-1 overall.

Jackson meanwhile faced 36 shots in defeat for the Rock and Yaremchuk saw no attempts on target in a brief stint for Timmins as their record slipped to 10-15-1-1 on the campaign.
