POWASSAN, Ont. – Picking up three assists from Parker Bowman, the Powassan Voodoos went on to defeat the Timmins Rock 3-1 Friday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League first place showdown at the Powassan Sportsplex.

With the outcome, Powassan improves to 40-8-1-0 on the season with their 81 points giving them one more than 39-10-1-1 Timmins that also sees the Voodoos holding two games in hand.

Ryan Mills got the home side going 7:18 into the contest as he picked up his 15th of the season with help from Bowman and Seiji Martone.

The Rock countered with the equalizer off the stick of their captain Derek Seguin as he notched his 23rd tally of the campaign while also extending a consecutive game point streak to seven in the process.

However, Powassan regained the lead late in the opening period when Eric Mondoux connected on the power play at 19:07 that saw Bowman bag his second assist of the session.

In the middle stanza, Bowman earned yet another helper for the Voodoos as he set-up Tomas Yachmenev for his 26th midway through the stanza.

Moving on to the third, the session was scoreless as the hosts held firm defensively to secure the victory.

Getting the nod in the Voodoos’ net, Owen Say made 37 saves on the night to record his league-leading 28th triumph of the campaign.

Tyler Masternak started for Timmins and allowed two against on nine attempts and suffered the loss in one period of work while Vance Meyer handled 17 of 18 in a lengthy relief stint.
