Power play paces Powassan past Cochrane

COCHRANE – The Powassan Voodoos scored three times on the power play and rode the 56-save effort of Matt Young to help lead them to a 3-1 victory over the Cochrane Crunch Friday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest at the Tim Horton Event Centre.

Cochrane did open the scoring 6:23 into the first period as Jason Berube fired home his 11th goal of the season.

The Voodoos notched their first man advantage effort of the evening with 9:03 left in the opening stanza courtesy of Brendan D’Agostino.

It stayed that way until the 13:15 mark of the middle session when Powassan’s Steve Harland buried the eventual game-winner past Crunch starter Brett Young while also running a point streak to a dozen games.

The visitors then added some insurance in the latter stages of the third with a power play effort off the stick of Aaron Dart at 15:58.

Matt Young did the rest capping off a strong night in net for the Voodoos in registering the victory.

Brett Young was also solid making 40 stops of his own in defeat for Cochrane.
