FRENCH RIVER – Getting two goals apiece from Derek Seguin, Karter Renouf and Zachary Smith, the Timmins Rock went on to defeat the French River Rapids 6-1 in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up Saturday at Noelville Arena.
Timmins set the pace in the opening period as they skated out to a 3-0 cushion on markers in the back half of the session on tallies from Smith, Renouf and Seguin.
On the power play to commence the second stanza, the Rock upped their lead to four as Renouf potted his second of the night at 7th overall at 1:09.
French River did get one back just over even minutes later when Ty Chambers collected his 16th of the campaign with help from Levi Siau and Esa Patton.
Action in the third saw Timmins put the game away with Seguin striking on the man advantage as he picked up goal No. 25 on the year at 6:22 before Smith finished off the scoring a couple of shifts later.
Rock starter Vance Meyer made 20 saves to pick up the win for his side while a busy Ben Montgomery saw 52 shots fired his way in defeat.
