SUDBURY, Ont. – The Rayside-Balfour Canadians picked up a goal in each period and a 32-save shutout courtesy of MacKenzie Savard to post a 3-0 triumph over the Timmins Rock in Day 1 action at Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League Showcase at Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex in Sudbury.
Rayside-Balfour got the only offensive support they would require four and a half minutes into the contest as James White notched the eventual game-winner with his sixth marker of the campaign as he tallied for a third straight outing.
The Canadians added to their cushion 8:32 into the middle session on a Jacob Patridge effort.
It stayed 2-0 until late in regulation when Rayside-Balfour iced it on a Jett Leishman empty netter with 15 seconds to go.
Eric Jackson faced 27 shots in the loss for the Rock.
Both goaltenders picked up CCM Hockey player of the game honours.
