GALLERY: Timmins skates to 3-1 win over Rayside-Balfour

TIMMINS, Ont. – Austin Petrie’s first Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League goal, coming 38 seconds into the second period, stood up as the game-winner as the Timmins Rock earned a 3-1 win over the Rayside-Balfour Canadians Friday at McIntyre Arena.

Timmins also got things going offensively early in the contest as Jared Hester finished off an Alexandre Brisson feed 41 seconds after the opening face-off.

Another quick tally to begin the middle stanza helped the Rock to go up by two when Petrie collected his initial NOJHL tally at the 38-second mark in what turned out to be the eventual difference maker.

Rayside-Balfour did come back with one of their own at 5:05 as James White notched his fifth of the season.

A third period power play helped the Rock add some insurance in the latter stages of the contest when Stewart Parnell knocked in his third of the campaign with five and a half minutes to go to round out the night’s scoring.

Brisson finished with two assists in the game as he now has 10 points in as many outings to begin the year.

Brendan Bishop was called up to make 27 saves to record the win for Timmins.

Matty Mayhew faced 30 shots in defeat for the Canadians.
