FRENCH RIVER – The Powassan Voodoos picked up a goal and two assists from Harrison Israels to help them move their unbeaten streak to 10 as they doubled up the French River Rapids 6-3 Saturday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at Noelville Arena.
Another strong start allowed Powassan to gain the early upper hand with Israels picking up his 12th of the campaign before the contest was six minutes old.
An early man advantage in the second period helped the Voodoos go up by two thanks to a Eric Mondoux power play effort at 2:22.
French River answered that two minutes later when Alex Goettlicher collected his fourth of the campaign to bring the home side to within one.
After that though, special teams allowed the visitors to strike twice in just over a minute as Quintin Loon-Stewardson scored on the power play while Tyson Gilmour buried one with Powassan shorthanded.
The Gilmour tally also helped him extend consecutive game point streak to seven in succession.
The Voodoos then got another with two seconds to go in the period off the stick of Dylan D’Agostino to put them up 5-1 after 40 minutes.
Levi Siau upped a goal streak to five straight with a man advantage effort in the third to bring French River to within three with 16:01 remaining in regulation.
The Rapids kept coming and added another in quick order off the stick of Christian Gaudreau at 5:22, however, Powassan regrouped wrapped it up thanks to Shane Beaulieu a few shifts after that to round out the scoring.
