Voodoos’ Say, Canadians’ DeGrazia named to Canada East WJAC roster

SUDBURY, Ont. – Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Wednesday that Powassan Voodoos goaltender Owen Say and Rayside-Balfour Canadians forward Nicholas DeGrazia have both been named to the Team Canada East roster that will compete in next month’s World Junior A Challenge, Dec. 7-15, in Dawson Creek, B.C.

Timmins Rock head coach Corey Beer will also serve on the Canada East staff as an assistant coach with Powassan’s J.J. Johnson is the team’s equipment manager.

Say, 18, hails from London, Ont., and sports an impressive 16-1 record with a 2.14 goals-against average along with a .929 save percentage and one shutout. His win total tops all NOJHL netminders.

As for DeGrazia, the 17-year-old from Thunder Bay currently leads all league rookies in points with 27 on 13 tallies and 14 assists in 24 games played.

“The NOJHL would like to extend its congratulations to both Owen and Nicholas on being selected to compete with Team Canada East at this prestigious event,” offered NOJHL commissioner Robert Mazzuca.

“With Corey Beer of the Timmins Rock as an assistant coach for Canada East and Powassan’s J.J. Johnson being the club’s equipment manager, all four individuals have had a tremendous impact in the league. Their success, along with the accomplishments of many players, coaches, staff members, officials and teams, continues to draw attention and recognition to the NOJHL, locally and nationally,” added Mazzuca.
