KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – The Kirkland Lake Gold Miners saw Tyler Fyfe tally twice, which included the game-winner, in a 4-1 triumph over the Rayside-Balfour Canadians in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League matinee Sunday at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.
The Gold Miners struck for the opening goal of the contest seven minutes into the contest as Joe Whitett notched his first of the season.
Heading into the middle stanza, Kirkland Lake extended their cushion at 7:35 when Fyfe collected his second of the campaign and eventual fourth career game-winning marker in regular season play.
The home side kept coming and made it 3-0 midway through the day with Zach Bannister finding the back of the net for the third time on the year.
Special teams allowed Rayside-Balfour allowed to get on the board before the frame was finished on a Matthew Neault power play marker at 15:15.
However the Gold Miners came right back with a man advantage effort of the own thanks to Fyfe’s second of the period.
The Kirkland Lake defence along with the goaltending of Ryan Winters did the rest the remainder of the afternoon to secure the victory.
Declan Carter dished out two assists for the Gold Miners while Winters finished with 26 stops in the victory.
Matty Mayhew faced 35 shots in defeat for the Canadians.
