Gold Miners win streak reaches 6
KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – The Kirkland Lake Gold Miners got a pair of power play goals and an assist from Andrew Cordssen-David to help them win their sixth Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League game in a row Friday as they defeated the visiting Iroquois Falls Eskis 6-1 at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.
Taking advantage of a partial five-minute man advantage, Kirkland Lake made Iroquois Falls pay by notching a pair of first period power play markers off the sticks of Cordssen-David, who notched his first NOJHL tally, and Marc-Antoine Arseneau, who collected his 20th of the season.
Former Eskis forward Brett Ouderkirk extended the Gold Miners lead at 17:50 to put the home side up by three through 20 minutes.
The Gold Miners third man advantage effort of the night put the hosts up 4-0 through two periods of play as Cordssen-David picked up his second of the evening.
Joel Fortin helped Kirkland Lake go up by five 7:33 into the third before the Eskis Dante Juris spoiled Tyler Mazzocato’s shutout bid with a power play marker at 12:25.
Ty Cousineau’s first in 2015-16 wrapped up the scoring as his point shot found its way in to round out the scoring with two minutes left.
Mazzocato finished with 19 saves to pick-up the win while Joe Sheppard was busy from the onset facing 46 shots in defeat for Iroquois Falls.
