ESPANOLA, Ont. – Powassan Voodoos forward Cade Herd scored once and assisted on two others to lead his side to a 7-3 win over the Espanola Express in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up Saturday at the Regional Recreation Complex.
The three-point night for Herd now gives him 140 in his NOJHL career, which establishes a Powassan team record surpassing the 139 Tyson Gilmour had in his time with the club.
A fast-paced first frame saw the two teams combine for five goals, including three by the visiting Voodoos.
Herd collected his 20th of the season to put Powassan in front, Espanola came right back to tie it thanks to Mitchell Lee midway through the period.
Powassan then countered with markers from Gabinien Kioki and William Petrie to put them up by a pair.
The Express managed to get one back late as Zachary Matyasik notched his ninth at 19:31.
It was more Espanola seven and a half minutes into the second stanza where Chase Lammi tied it on his 11th in 2018-19.
Regrouping, the Voodoos tallied twice in rapid succession later in the period to go up 5-3 after two with Ryan Mills and Seiji Martone both finding the back of the net in the session.
Action in the third period saw Powassan help put the game away as David Campbell secured his 15th of the campaign at 3:10.
Herd then set his franchise record point mark by setting up Max Newnam for the night’s final marker.
Voodoos goaltender Christian Cicigoi made 29 saves to register the win while Express netminder Joel Rainville saw 41 attempts fired his way in defeat.
