SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that goaltenders Tyler Masternak of the Timmins Rock and Garret Boyonoski of the Blind River Beavers, along with Beavers’ forward Caleb Serre have been selected its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending March 10.
TYLER MASTERNAK, (G) TIMMINS ROCK – Getting the nod in both games in Timmins’ first-round match-up with the defending NOJHL champion Cochrane Crunch, Masternak allowed just three goals-against in nearly 140 minutes of game action to register a 1.29 average and a .946 save percentage in the series, which both presently pace all league netminders.
The 18-year-old Oshawa, Ont., native led the NOJHL in victories this season with 29 and was named a second team all-star for his efforts.
In all, Masternak’s league postseason record is 8-5.
GARRET BOYONOSKI, (G) BLIND RIVER BEAVERS – Boyonoski backstopped Blind River to a pair of wins over Elliot Lake to help send the Beavers to a West Division semifinal meeting with the No. 1 seeded Soo Thunderbirds.
The 19-year-old from Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., sported a 2.00 goals-against average and a .938 save mark in the series triumph vs. the Wildcats.
In 10 career NOJHL playoff appearances, Boyonoski has gone 6-4 with a 2.05 GAA and a .947 SV%, along with one shutout.
CALEB SERRE, (F) BLIND RIVER BEAVERS – As captain of the Beavers, Serre registered five points for his hometown side in their triumph over Elliot Lake.
The 20-year-old began with a pair of goals, including the game-winner, and an assist in the Game 1 win then helped set-up two more, that featured a helper on the difference maker, as Blind River also took Game 2 and advanced to the next round.
A veteran of 26 career playoff contests, Serre has scored five times and dished out 10 assists for 15 points in that span.
Three of those postseason tallies have been game-winners.
