Trio of NOJHL teams tabbed in final CJHL rankings of 2014-15
SUDBURY – The Canadian Junior Hockey League announced its final edition of the Pointstreak Top 20 rankings for the 2014-15 season Monday and a trio of Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League squads garnered recognition.
Having clinched the second-straight NOJHL regular season crown over the weekend, the Soo Thunderbirds were slotted 13th nationally in the 129-team CJHL.
Meanwhile the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners were ranked 15th overall and the Elliot Lake Wildcats picked up honourable mention status for a third straight week in the tabulations, which were comprised in conjunction with International Scouting Services.
Boasting 80 points with three games remaining before the postseason, Sault Ste. Marie has gone 37-6-1-5 overall and have secured the No. 1 seed for the upcoming playoffs.
Having earned the NOJHL East Division crown, Kirkland Lake has two contests remaining and boasts a 36-10-2-2 record.
As for first-year Elliot Lake, the expansion Wildcats have succeeded expectations mightily sporting a 36-11-2-1 mark in the league with two more tilts before they begin the playoffs.
The top three in the final CJHL rankings went unchanged to wrap things up.
Finishing No. 1 was the 2015 RBC Cup Portage Terriers (MJHL) followed by the Spruce Grove Saints (AJHL) at No. 2 and the Aurora Tigers (OJHL) at No. 3.
